Healthy Lunch Classes

Overview:
Bento is a Japanese style of eating where lunch items are packed into a wooden or plastic box with individual compartments. Bento lunches consist of a balance of food groups, colors and textures. We’ve expanded on this concept by creating themed HHC Bento Lunch classes that combine MyPlate Nutrition standards, colorful fresh foods, and a special lunch box system that parents may purchase.  We’re empowering kids with healthy options and limitless choices.

Objectives:
In these classes, kids will learn how to create a colorful, fun, and nutritious Bento school lunch that can be replicated at home based on MyPlate nutrition standards.

Themes:

We offer 12 different lunch themed classes to keep your child excited about packing lunch for school.  We suggest you register for several themed lunch classes to give your child the best variety and experience in the kitchen.  Your Certified Instructor provides the selection of classes that they will offer.

Many of our healthy lunch classes can be created as a vegetarian options using substitutions.  Contact your instructor for details.

Class Structure:

Each HHC Healthy Lunch Class is two hours in length.  We start with a 30 minute nutrition game or activity to teach your kids about making important choices.  Then we chop, blend, slice and whip our way into making a colorful themed lunch followed by clean up and a sit down meal.  Your kids will be empowered to replicate their lunch at home and definitely won’t leave hungry!

 

Birthday Parties

Kids Cooking Birthday Parties!

Cook up something fun on your special day.

Parties include up to 10 kids (birthday girl/boy plus 9 guests).
•    Choose from 1 of 12 birthday menus with optional giant cookie cake recipe.
•    Party guests help prepare the meal and receive printed recipes to keep.
•    Price includes food, preparation tools, clean-up, and hands-on instruction.
•    Parents supply the plates, cutlery, drinks, decorations, and dessert.
•    Birthday parties are held in the child’s home or parent provided kitchen facility.
•    Menus include vegetarian offerings.

8-Hour Core

Healthy Hands Cooking’s Signature Cooking Program

Healthy Hands Cooking’s 8-Hour Core Cooking Program and HHC Kids Cooking Camps all start with the 8-Hour Core Cooking Program material.  This is our signature program that will lay a foundation of nutrition and cooking skills for years to come.

Class 1:  Healthy Snacking

We will cover all kinds of foundational information such as kitchen preparedness, kitchen safety, proper food handling, hygiene, cross-contamination, measuring, and proper food storage. We will also make some quick and healthy snacks to try!

Class 2:  Healthy Breakfasts

We’ll start by learning the importance of fueling your body for the day and how to choose foods that give us energy and brain power!  Then we’ll dive right in and make some amazing breakfast dishes using fresh from the field produce.  Your kids won’t believe how good mother nature can taste.  

Class 3:  Healthy Lunches 

We’re going to kick-off the class with a “MyPlate” nutrition segment , and then teach your child how to properly portion and balance their meals for greatest nutritional impact on the body.  From there, we’ll jump into some healthy ideas for lunches.  As you know, homemade lunches can be boring, and school cafeteria lunches can be costly and unhealthy.  We’ll create some fun and exciting lunches that are easy to make and packed with important nutrients for “kids on the grow”.  

Class 4:  Healthy Substitutions of our Favorite Foods

Burgers, pizza, chicken fingers, mac and cheese…our kids have their favorites and they will learn how to substitute and rework some of their favorite recipes to create the healthiest versions on the planet while still tasting GREAT! We’ll also focus on healthy substitutions, food labels, and daily nutritional requirements.

Activity sheets, recipes, helpful tips, and individual workstations for hands-on activity are included in the course.  Each class also starts with 30 minutes of nutritional education and activities.

Students of the Healthy Hands Cooking 8-Hour Core Cooking Program receive a Certificate of Completion.

Cooking Camp

Our Cooking Camp starts with our 8-Hour Core Cooking Program.  Camps typically run 4 days in a row for 3 hours each day.

Day 1:  Healthy Snacking

We will cover all kinds of foundational information such as kitchen preparedness, kitchen safety, proper food handling, hygiene, cross-contamination, measuring, and proper food storage. We will also make some quick, healthy snacks to take home.

Day 2:  Healthy Breakfasts

We’ll dive right in and make some amazing breakfast dishes and summer sweet smoothies using fresh from the field produce.  Your kids won’t believe how good mother nature can taste.  The importance of fueling your body for the day will also be covered.

Day 3:  Healthy Lunches

Homemade lunches can be boring and school cafeteria lunches can be costly and unhealthy.  Well not anymore.  We’ll create some fun and exciting lunches that are easy to make and packed with important nutrients for “kids on the grow”.  We’ll also talk about MyPlate nutrition and how to get everything the body needs through proper food choices.

HHC Legacy Chefs – Seniors

 

Healthy Hands Cooking’s “Legacy Chefs” program is designed to unite children with active seniors in the kitchen or provide a seniors only fun demonstration style class.

Senior communities are an ideal setting where students young and young-at-heart will learn about nutrition and preparing healthy whole foods.

HHC Certified Instructors teach each class using fun, age appropriate lesson plans that lay a foundation for a lifetime.

Senior adults are invited to watch, participate, or help mentor a child or each other, bringing the intergenerational community together for precious learning time around the table.

We also offer demonstration style classes and seniors only food preparation classes.  Ask your instructor for details.

College Cooking

If you’re a high school or college aged student, chances are your campus is surrounded by a bunch of unhealthy fast food options and processed food snack machines.  You may even have a dorm with limited cooking space and feel like your only option is to hit the closest cafeteria or boil up a pack of Ramen noodles.
